Prof. Saif Islam’s nanotechnology research group focuses on the incorporation of low-dimensional nanostructured materials and devices with conventional integrated circuit (IC) elements and systems. Unlike the research-based approach of sequentially processing individual nano-structures for device physics studies, the group employs massively parallel and mass-manufacturable nanofabrication techniques that are crucial for reproducible fabrication and incorporation of dense, low-cost nanodevice arrays in highly integrated systems. The group’s research objectives include the development of synthesis and integration processes for 0D, 1D and 2D materials (silicon, Ge, GaAs, InP, GaP, ZnO, GaN, Ga2O3, diamond, PbSe, HgCdTe) for potential applications in the areas of electronics, photonics, quantum sensing, data center communication, computing, energy harvesting, storage and Micro/Nano-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS/NEMS).
